Polyhistors [polymaths] are people whose interests and expertise span a significant number of different subject areas. Not to be confused with ‘jack of all trades’ or generalists, where emphasis lies on skill and broad interests.
I always had a bit of a fascination with Leonardo da Vinci. How awesome it would have been to have dinner with him, the renaissance man?
Polyhistors came about as a little place on the internet to encourage sharing of knowledge, storytelling, or – if anything – to make you sound incredibly interesting on your next date.
“We’re always looking, but we never really see.”
With our Facebook and Twitter attention spans, it can be hard when something longer than 140 characters comes up. I know. As the Milton Glaser quote states above, we skim and never absorb. But funnily enough, when your friend tells you something 140+, you kinda care about it, because they do. The aim here is to keep it all above bite-sized, not a snack and not a too filling meal.
